Do I need proof of my extracurricular activities?

QUESTION: Do I need proof that shows that I have been in extracurricular activities other than a letter from the director's office at my high school? I don't study in the U.S. although I am a U.S. citizen and I'm planning to attend college in the states. What should I do in my situation? Signed, Proof Positive

Dear Proof Positive: You don't need proof of your activities beyond what you've described. Colleges expect you to be truthful when you list your activities and awards on your application. Don't worry about getting letters from your advisors just to prove that you participated in certain activities.

Since colleges operate on the honor system, the penalty is very severe if you break it and often will result in expulsion.
