Applications must be received by March 15th for priority consideration. Applications received after March 15th will be considered on May 1st. Applications received after May 1st will be considered on June 15th.


Foundation Scholarships

New Student Scholarship

Scholarship funds are generated by contributions made to the Dakota College at Bottineau Foundation from alumni, individuals, families, businesses and organizations. There are many different scholarships available to qualify for, including: wildlife, medical fields, agriculture related fields and biology or science related fields.  You will be matched up with the appropriate scholarship if you are granted an award. Amounts vary depending on qualifications, ranging from $1,000-$2,500. The criteria to be eligible for this scholarship include:

  • Good Academic Performance
  • Financial Need
  • Must be admitted as a full time student on DCB campus

 

Alumni Scholarships

Returning Students Scholarship

Scholarship funds are generated by contributions made to the Dakota College at Bottineau Foundation from alumni, individuals, families, businesses and organizations. Amounts vary depending on qualifications, ranging from $500-$1,000. The criteria to be eligible for this scholarship include:

  • Must be a second year or returning student to DCB
  • Good academic performance
  • Financial Need
  • Must be admitted as a full time student on DCB campus

 

Direct Scholarships

Berge Scholarship

The Berge Scholarship was established in 1991 by funds received through the Berge Foundation from the Ruth and Vern Berge Estate. Vern, a Souris area farmer and Bottineau County Commissioner, and his wife, Ruth, a former school teacher, were always interested in education. They wanted to make it possible for every Bottineau county student to have the opportunity to attend college. Amounts vary from year to year depending on funds available. The criteria to be eligible for this scholarship include:

  • Must be a Bottineau County Resident
  • Must be admitted as a full time student on DCB campus
  • The Berge Scholarship will only be awarded for a maximum of two years

 

Darrell L. McDaniel Wildlife Scholarship

This scholarship is generated by contributions made to the Dakota College at Bottineau Foundation from Darrel McDaniel for the purpose of funding financial awards to students that are enrolled in the Wildlife Program. Scholarship recipients are required to enroll as a full-time student, which is defined as 12 or more credit hours per semester, and be registered in the Wildlife Program. Scholarship amounts will vary from year to year.


 

Donald & Helen Welsh Nursing Scholarship

The Welsh Nursing Scholarship was established in the memory of Donald & Helen Welsh that both have passed away from cancer. Both endured significant health issues that required to have efficient and knowledgeable nurses caring for them. We truly appreciated all the nurses that helped us take care of our parents while they were ill. We know our parents were also very thankful of the nurse that took such good care of them. WE (Welsh family) want to give back to the nursing profession by offering this scholarship to students that are enrolled at the Dakota College at Bottineau, Nursing Program.

The qualifications are as follows:

  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Participates in the Student Nurse Organization with a minimum of 10 hours
  • Need to write a short bibliography (500-700 words) about “What does it mean to you to become a nurse”
  • Must pass the first nursing semester to be awarded the scholarship

 

Donald O. Koehmstedt St. Andrews Nursing Scholarship

The Koehmstedt Scholarship was established in 2016 by funds donated from St. Andrews Heath Center from the Donald O. Koehmstedt Estate. The purpose of the scholarship is to award financial aid to a nursing student and in return the awarded student will work at St. Andrews Health Center for up to 4 years as a practical nurse or an associate nurse.

The qualifications are as follows:

  • Must be enrolled in the nursing program as a full-time student
  • Must work at St. Andrews Health Center following graduation for 1 year per $5,000 of financial assistance
  • Must maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better
  • Must complete 1st semester in LPN program before eligibility
  • Eligible for $5,000/semester with a $20,000 maximum over the span of 3 years
  • Must complete the application form every academic school year

 

Elma Severson Scholarship

The annual allocation from Elma Severson will support a scholarship to be awarded through the Foundation Office on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Student must be registered as a full-time student at DCB
  • Student must be a resident of Bottineau County or Rolette County
  • Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA, can be a new or returning student. They must maintain a 3.0 to continue to receive the award in the Spring semester.
  • Student will be enrolled in Health Sciences/Life Sciences/Pre-Professional fields and/or Nursing field
  • Must complete the application form every academic school year One or two student scholarships will be awarded with a maximum of $3,000 per academic year.

 

Elmer C. Lindberg Healthcare Scholarship

Elmer's wife Bernice, was a patient at the Good Samaritan Home and the St. Andrews Hospital in Bottineau for several years before she passed.  Elmer witnessed the excellent care she received from the nursing staff at both institutions, and as a result donated funds to be used for healthcare scholarships.  After his death in 1997, additional funds were endowed to the DCB Foundation. The scholarship recipients are determined by a committee. There is a short interview process that takes place. Amounts vary depending on funds available and qualifications, ranging from $1,000-$2,000.  The criteria to be eligible for this scholarship include:

  • Must be pursuing a nursing degree
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or better
  • Must be admitted as a full time student on DCB Campus

 

Larry Chaput Horticulture Scholarship

One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be made each year, half to be given each semester.
The qualification are as follows:

  • Must be admitted as a full time student on DCB campus
  • Must be an undergraduate student majoring in Horticulture

 

Otter Tail Scholarship

This scholarship is generated by contributions made to the Dakota College at Bottineau Foundation from Otter Tail Power Company for the purpose of funding financial awards to students. One scholarship for the amount of $1,000 is available per academic year. The criteria to be eligible for this scholarship include:

  • Must be registered in the Environmental Technology Program
  • Must be admitted as a full time student on DCB campus

 

Bottineau Children’s Academy Scholarship

The Bottineau Children’s Academy is offering a $5,000 scholarship for one student who is enrolled full time, has a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and is pursuing a degree at Dakota College. Must also submit an essay and commit to a one-year work commitment with Bottineau Children’s Academy childcare facility. Contact the Foundation office for more details.


 

Marjorie Severson Memorial Scholarship

Marjorie Severson was a long-time business instructor and advisor at the college. The Marjorie Severson Memorial Scholarship will be given to a student pursuing a degree in a business field. The student must be enrolled full time, carry at least a 2.0 GPA and submit an essay to the scholarship committee to be considered. Contact the Foundation office for more details.


 

Third Year Transfer Scholarship

This transfer scholarship will be given to one student who has completed ENGL 110 and 120 with G. Albrightson at DCB. Must be a full-time student and carry a 3.5 GPA. Students must be in their third year of college and submit an essay to the Foundation office. Scholarship will be $1,000 given for the spring semester of their third year.
