Scholarship Opportunities

Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University scholarships are awarded based on student academic achievement, skills, career goals, and financial need. Funding sources include fundraising events, individual and corporate donations.

Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University Scholarships:

  • -​​The Student Scholarship Fund was established to support student success. 

    -$500 student scholarships will be awarded each of the fall and spring semesters based on the availability of funds. 

    -Must be registered for at least 6 credits and a degree-seeking student

    -Minimum of a 2.0 Cumulative GPA

  • -Eligible majors for students include business administration, accounting, finance, marketing, and tribal administration.

    -Scholarship award varies.

    -Must be registered for at least 6 credits and a degree-seeking student

  • -​Gay Leslie is the daughter of a Wisconsin dairy farmer and the first in her family to attend college, thanks in part to a scholarship.  Her great-grandmother was a member of an upper Midwest Native American Tribe.  To honor her great-grandmother and pay forward her scholarship benefits, the Leslies' hope to provide need-based financial support to Native American undergraduate students so they can obtain a quality education.

    -One (1) $2,500 merit-based scholarship will be awarded in the spring and fall semesters based on the availability of funds. 

    -Must be registered for at least 12 credits and a degree-seeking student

    -Minimum of a 2.8 Cumulative GPA

  • -Mr. Mic Isham and Mrs. Monica Isham believe in what education can do for the community. The family hopes to provide a scholarship to a Native American undergraduate student who is actively involved in College activities (clubs, attendance, events, sports, etc.) and has an interest in the study of Natural Resources or the legal field. 

    -One (1) $1000 student scholarship will be awarded each fall and spring semesters based on the availability of funds. 

    -Must be registered for at least 12 credits and a degree-seeking student

    -Minimum of a 2.0 Cumulative GPA

  • Students must be in Agriculture & Natural Resource Management degree of study

    - Must be registered for at least 12 credits and a degree-seeking student

    - Preference is given to a student who is enrolled as a tribal member or descendent.

    - Minimum of 2.0 Cumulative GPA

  • -Available for Native American students that covers the first-semester tuition for eligible applicants.

    -Awarded to one (1) the first-time student that has never been previously enrolled at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University

    -Awarded for the fall and spring semesters based on the availability of funds. 

    -Must be registered for at least 12 credits and a degree-seeking student

    -Must be enrolled Tribal Member or descent.

  • -Awarded to (1) student each fall and spring semester based on the availability of funds

    -Must be registered for at least 6 credits and a degree-seeking student

    -Must be enrolled tribal member or descendent

    -Minimum of 2.0 Cumulative GPA

  • The Lakshmi Gurusamy Memorial Scholarship was established at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University to honor a remarkable soul. “She never stepped foot in a school, but fiercely instilled in her son the value of a quality education. Her support resulted in her son being the first ever in the family to go to college and obtain a doctorate degree. She felt no matter what your circumstances, education provides a way to elevate your life and open your mind. Her resilient spirit and strength are the same I see in the Native American community. It is with that hope, a recipient of this scholarship continues to pursue learning in bettering their lives and those around them” shares Sangeetha Ganesan.

    • One (1) $1,000 merit-based scholarship will be awarded in the fall semester based on the availability of funds.

    • Preference given for students enrolled or a dependent of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe.

    • The Student has established a financial need consistent with the policies of the University.

    • The student maintains a 2.5 GPA, either by the prior semester or cumulative GPA of the student’s enrollment with the University.

  • Bessie Bentley Polivka, member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, was born in Odanah, Wisconsin in 1909, and grew up in the Bad River Mashkiiziibii tribal community. Educator and life-long learner, she experienced first-hand the intrinsic and practical value of education, and continued to inspire students throughout her long teaching career to share her love of learning. The goal of this scholarship is to honor her memory by providing other native students the opportunity to serve their communities as dedicated educators and enthusiastic life-long learners.

    • Preference given for students enrolled or a descendent of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

    • Preference given for students enrolled or a descendent of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe.

    • The student has established financial need consistent with the polices of the University.

    • The student maintains a 2.0 Grade Point Average, either by the prior semester or cumulative GPA of the student’s enrollment with the University.

    • Declared major in Education.

  • An integral part of Marie Kuykendall’s journey has been her education, beginning with her grandmother’s encouragement of how important education would be for her future. Marie instilled this instruction toward her own children as well. Marie would later become the first Chief Financial Officer of the Board of Regents, investing her time and knowledge into the future of (then) Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College. She stated, “It is through learning that we can take care of ourselves and our family.”

    The Marie Kuykendall Scholarship is open to students enrolled or a descendent of Lac Courte Oreilles or another federally recognized American Indian Tribe in their second semester at the University maintaining a 2.5 GPA and is responsible to care for their family.

  • The Waaswaaganing Scholarship Fund will support students who are enrolled in, or who are descendants of, the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

    -One (1) $750 scholarship will be awarded each spring semester based on the availability of funds.

    -Minimum of a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).

    -Must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits and be a degree-seeking student.

  • Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University scholarships are established with specific criteria and limitations; however, ONE application works for ALL scholarships listed on this application.

  • Students will only be awarded one scholarship upon approval by the Scholarship Committee.

  • Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University scholarships are not cash awards; scholarships are deposited directly into student accounts.

  • The application deadline is Census Day for all semesters- Check Academic Calendar for Census Date
