MagellanTV is offering $1,000 to FIVE women pursuing
degrees in STEM


Women make up less than one-third of the science and engineering workforce, and often don’t get the necessary support for pursuing such a career. MagellanTV wants to support women in pursuit of education in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields, so we’re offering $1,000 each to five female-identifying college or university students seeking a higher education in STEM.

How to apply

Complete the application form below. You’ll need proof of upcoming enrollment, and a written essay (300-500 words) or video submission (2-3 minutes) answering the following prompts


What are you studying in the STEM field?
Why are you passionate about your chosen area of study?
What do you hope to use your education for in the future?
Requirements Submissions will be judged based on thoughtfulness, clarity, creativity, grammar, and how well the above questions are answered. Submissions will not be judged based solely on need.

The application deadline is September 1, 2022 at 5 p.m. PST, and all entries must be submitted prior. No late submissions will be accepted.

Accepted to or enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university
Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale)

Rules of Eligibility

Applicant Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who will be attending an accredited college or university located in the United States between September 2022 and December 2022.

Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and identify as female. Applicant must be accepted to or enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university between September 2022 and December 2022. Applicants must also have a cumulative college grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale. Employees of MagellanTV, its parents, affiliates and subsidiaries, participating advertising and promotion agencies (and members of their immediate family and/or those living in the same household of each such employee) are not eligible.


Description of Funds

Five recipients will receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship to be applied to qualified expenses, including graduate and undergraduate tuition, fees, and books, for the 2022-2023 academic year. Funds are provided by MagellanTV. Payment is issued by MagellanTV, made payable to the student and mailed after October 1, 2022, directly to the student. If the funds are not used for qualified education expenses recipients shall be responsible for all applicable taxes on the funds.

Recipient Selection and Announcements

The recipients will be selected after a team of judges reviews all entries, after the deadline of September 1, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Entries will be judged on creativity, thoughtfulness, composition, and insight. Suggestions should be actionable and focused on the theme of the scholarship question. Submissions with poor grammar, spelling, and lack of proofreading will not be considered. The recipients will be notified by email and/or letter within 35 days of the closing date..


College/University Approval

The institution must be accredited and listed on the official website of the U.S. Department of Education. Applicants attending military academies are ineligible for this scholarship. All school transfers are subject to accreditation approval.


Permissions

MagellanTV reserves the right to alter or discontinue this program at any time without notice. All video and essay submissions and photographs become the property of MagellanTV and may be reposted or displayed online, in whole or part, without notification. MagellanTV shall be entitled to use, alter, or delete submissions for any purpose whatsoever without compensation to applicants.

She aims to establish her own aerospace company that makes exploring the universe far more sustainable, efficient, and accessible. She also aims to use her platform to empower other women in STEM, and to remind those from marginalized communities that it is possible to come from humble beginnings and still land on Mars.

Dimple is studying Bioengineering at UC Berkeley. Research she did in high school kickstarted her passion for combining existing biology and biochemistry knowledge with technology to better understand diseases. She continues nurturing this passion in college and hopes to ultimately work at the forefront of biotechnology.

Jeanette is attending Stanford University and is studying Computer Science with a concentration in human-computer interactions. She is interested in the intersection between computer science and policy, specifically looking at the impact on marginalized communities. In the future, she hopes to work to improve legislation related to artificial intelligence and privacy.

Angela is a student at SCSU part of the B.S. M.S. Chemistry Accelerated Pathway Program. Once she graduates, she will go on to get her PHD in Sustainable Chemistry to combine her love for chemistry with her passion for environmental protection. She’s currently working on her thesis that uses XRF technology to study the environmental impact of bridges.

Yasini attends the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia pursuing a degree in computer engineering. She intends to pursue a career in cyber security and software development. Tasini is a member of the Society of Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and African Student Association.

Terms and Conditions

The sponsor of this scholarship is MagellanTV LLC, whose principal office is located at 415 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94105. Persons must be at least 18 years old, and identify as female in order to participate. Only U.S. Citizens, Lawful Residents of the United States, or DACA recipients are eligible to participate. There is NO APPLICATION FEE AND NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP. Any purchase or consideration otherwise given by applicants will not improve one’s chances of receiving a scholarship. Route to apply for the scholarship and scholarship details are available online at www.MagellanTV.com. Individuals may apply for the scholarship by submitting a completed application form. Individuals may attach a link to their essay or video on the form, or they may email their application to connect@magellantv.com. Applicants will be asked to provide their name and contact information so that MagellanTV can notify the recipients of the results. Closing date for applications will be September 1, 2022 at 5 p.m. PST. After this date no further applications for the scholarship will be permitted. Five (5) recipients will be selected from the entire pool of eligible applications. The recipients will be chosen by an independent adjudicator or panel of judges appointed by MagellanTV. The recipients will be notified by email and/or letter within 35 days of the closing date. If any recipient cannot be contacted or does not claim the scholarship within 14 days of notification, MagellanTV reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship from that recipient and pick a replacement recipient. MagellanTV will notify the recipient how the scholarship can be collected. The chosen recipients will each receive a one-time $1,000 scholarship to be applied to qualified expenses. The scholarships are not transferable. The recipients agree to the use of their name and image in any publicity material. Any personal data relating to the recipients or any other applicants will be used solely in accordance with current federal and state data protection legislation. Magellan will not share your information except insofar as to fulfill the purposes for which you submitted your information. Magellan likewise will not sell your information.
