Board of Trustees Scholarship

The Board of Trustees Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students entering Trocaire College. The scholarship is based on a cumulative GPA (high school or college, whichever is most recent) of 3.0 or higher.  Beginning in Fall of 2023, new freshman recipients will be awarded $2,000 annually and transfer and readmitted students will be awarded $1,750 annually.  The scholarship will be awarded annually for the entirety of the recipient’s selected program so long as the student maintains a GPA of 2.5 or higher and continuous enrollment.  The award is prorated for part-time enrollment.

Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students entering Trocaire College. The scholarship is based on a cumulative GPA (high school or college, whichever is most recent) between 2.5 and 2.99.  Beginning in Fall of 2023, new freshman recipients will be awarded $1,500 annually and transfer and readmitted students will be awarded $1,250 annually.  The scholarship will be awarded annually for the entirety of the recipient’s selected program so long as the student maintains a GPA of 2.5 or higher and continuous enrollment.  The award is prorated for part-time enrollment.

Opportunity Scholarship

The Opportunity Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students entering Trocaire College. The scholarship is based on a cumulative GPA (high school or college, whichever is most recent) between 2.0 and 2.49.  Beginning in Fall of 2023, new freshman recipients will be awarded $750 annually and transfer and readmitted students will be awarded $500 annually.  The scholarship will be awarded annually for the entirety of the recipient’s selected program so long as the student maintains a GPA of 2.5 or higher and continuous enrollment.  The award is prorated for part-time enrollment.

Nicholas Patterson Fund

The academic scholarships provided by the Nicholas Patterson Perpetual Fund were established under the Last Will and Testament of the late Nicholas D. Patterson.  Mr. Patterson, who lived to the age of 103, was a self-educated man who during the course of his lifetime developed an admiration as well as an appreciation for those who studied hard and worked to try and achieve their goals through education and citizenship. The Patterson Fund scholarships are not intended to pay a student’s entire tuition but to help lessen their financial burden. Tuition assistance may include help reducing educational costs such as purchase of books, computers, supplies etc.

Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo 

Since 1924, the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo has been awarding scholarships to students from Western New York. In 2017, the Community Foundation was one of the region’s largest scholarship providers, awarding scholarships totaling $2.91 million to Western New York students.

Beginning January 1, applications are available online. Between January and March, you can submit the form online along with your grades. By April 1, all grades, submissions and financial information must be uploaded to our site. In late June, award recipients be notified.

To take advantage of our scholarships, you must be a resident of one of the eight counties of Western New York, have at least a C (2.0) average GPA and be accepted to a nonprofit accredited school for full-time, undergraduate study.

Say Yes to Education Scholarship Program

Trocaire College is pleased to participate in the Say Yes to Education Scholarship Program. The college provides a total of 12 openings for CIty of Buffalo or Charter School students to receive a tuition scholarship at the college if they meet the following conditions of the Say Yes To Education Program:

  • A resident in the City of Buffalo.
  • Continuously enrolled in a Buffalo public or charter high school from at least grades 9-12. (Or be legally designated as having refugee status on an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or be an otherwise eligible noncitizen).
  • A graduate from a Buffalo public or charter school in June 2013 or later.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student (12 credits per semester) within one academic year after graduation.
  • Maintain an academic GPA of 2.0 or better.
  • Apply and remain eligible for financial aid each year by not defaulting on a student aid program, refusing to register for Selective Service as required by law, or are ineligible non-citizen.
Apply for the Say Yes Scholarship

Students applying to Trocaire College must complete the requirements found below by May 1, 2023 to be considered for admission under the Say Yes program:

  • Apply to the college using the online application found on our Apply Page (Be sure to check application box indicating your desire to be considered for the Say Yes program).
  • Contact Joanne Warren, Director of the Palisano Learning Center and Trocaire Opportunity Program at warrenj@trocaire.edu or at 716.827.2440.
  • Send high school transcripts to the College Admissions Office.
  • Create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). You will need to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID before you will be able to access the websites for the FAFSA.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Ensure that you have Trocaire College’s school code: 002812.

Additional Information Regarding the Say Yes to Education Program at Trocaire College

Though the Say Yes to Education Program provides tuition assistance to Buffalo Public City/Charter School graduates, it does not provide this financial assistance at private colleges like Trocaire. The Say Yes program is designed primarily for students attending public college and universities. However, Buffalo Public/ Charter School students who wish to attend a private college can receive tuition assistance based on a student’s economic need and academic ability. The Say Yes to Education program verifies to the college that a student has attended a Buffalo City Public/Charter school for four academic years and graduated. Based on verification, up to 12 students can receive tuition assistance at Trocaire College. This tuition assistance is provided by the college and not by the Say Yes program. As an urban college located in the City of Buffalo, Trocaire College is committed to assisting city students and helping to build a strong community through education.

Say Yes to Education does provide a Choice Grant to those students wishing to attend a private college like Trocaire. The Choice Grant is available for those students whose family income exceeds $75,000 annually. Say Yes To Education matches up to 12 grants for the college. Choice Grants can be up to $5,000 per year based on the difference between other financial aid awards and the cost of full-time tuition. Choice grants and all other federal/state or institutional aid cannot exceed the cost of full-time undergraduate tuition.
