Institutional Scholarships

All of the institutional aid listed below is available for enrolled, full-time students new to Friends University beginning Fall 2024 in the College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education (CBASE).  Returning students will be kept at their current funding levels. Scholarships apply to tuition and fees only.

Academic Scholarships

Freshmen Awards

Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen who have a minimum 3.8 GPA. Each recipient will be awarded $12,000 per year for four years. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Davis Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen who have a 3.5 to 3.79 GPA. Each recipient will be awarded $11,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Tower Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen who have a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA. Each recipient will be awarded $9,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires satisfactory academic progress. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Falcon Award

This award is given to admitted freshmen with a 2.5 to 2.99 GPA. Each recipient will be awarded $7,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires satisfactory academic progress. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Promise Award

This award is given to admitted freshmen who have a 2.0 to 2.49 GPA. Each recipient will be awarded $5,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires satisfactory academic progress. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Transfer Awards

Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to transfer students who have a minimum 3.5 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $10,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Davis Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to transfer students who have a 3.0 to 3.49 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $8,500 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Falcon Award

This award is given to admitted transfer students who have a 2.5 to 2.9 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $6,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires satisfactory academic progress. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Promise Award

This award is given to admitted transfer students. Each recipient will be awarded $4,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires satisfactory academic progress. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.


Graduate Scholarships

Gerald E. Litherland Scholarship

The Gerald E. Litherland Scholarship is awarded once a year to support the Global MBA students’ business residency abroad. If you have any questions, please direct them to the kneeland_brown@friends.edu or call 316-295-5926.


Adult Undergraduate Scholarships

Purcell Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Friends University alumni Bill Joe and Cindy Jo Pursell have established a scholarship for adult (non-traditional) undergraduate students. The $2500 scholarship will be granted once each year ($1250 per semester) and can be distributed to one recipient or divided between two qualified recipients at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

To apply for the scholarship students must:

  • Be a non-traditional adult student enrolled (full-time or part-time) at Friends University
  • Be fully admitted to an adult (non-traditional) bachelor’s degree program
  • Not be receiving tuition remission or employer reimbursement
  • Not be a previous recipient of the scholarship
  • Submit a letter explaining why they want and deserve the scholarship
  • Preference will be given to a non-traditional adult student who is actively working (paid or volunteer) in the arts or sciences and who has adopted at least one rescue animal (cats preferred)

Additional Institutional Scholarships & Awards

Friends Grant

Friends Grant will be awarded to traditional undergraduate students who are not participating in fine arts or athletics. Students who receive other institutional aid in addition to their academic scholarship (such as STEM etc.) may not be eligible for Friends Grant. Friends Grant is renewable. University Honors Academic Scholarship

The Honors Program at Friends University is a selective program for highly motivated and academically adventurous students.  Students accepted to the Honors Program are eligible to apply for a scholarship of up to $4,000.  Please visit the Honors Program website for more information about the program, eligibly criteria for the program and the scholarship, and additional information.

Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to first-time freshmen and transfer students who are a son or daughter of a Friends University graduate or former student who has completed at least 12 credit hours at Friends University. Applicants must have a high school CGPA of at least 2.0. Each recipient will be awarded $500 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Athletic Scholarship

Renewal of this scholarship requires a 2.0 CGPA. A student with a GPA lower than 2.0 may keep/lose their scholarship at the discretion of the coach.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Scholarship

Friends University offers a scholarship in partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletics (FCA). The agreement allows for scholarship money to be available for FCA Interns at Friends University.

Recipients of the scholarship will be mentored and trained by FCA Staff. The scholarship is guaranteed for four years if expectations of the program are being satisfied. The first three years of the student’s time at Friends focus on helping lead the FCA on the Friends University campus with the support of the FCA staff person. Students will assist with on-campus programming and support for Friends student-athletes. Additionally, the FCA staff person will lead a weekly or bi-weekly small group study with the FCA Interns. The fourth year of the internship, the student intern will partner with a local high school to work with high school athletes and coaches.

The scholarship is a partial scholarship and students must complete the application process by May 15 of each year. Priority will be given to students who have already been accepted and complete their deposit to attend Friends University. Up to two students will be awarded each year.

To apply for the scholarship, students must

  • Complete an essay (no longer than two pages) on why they want to participate in FCA and sport ministry.
  • Two letters of reference

Church Match Scholarship

Friends University will match any church scholarship to a student up to $500 per year. Students should submit their request to the governing body of their home church. Renewal of this scholarship requires continued church participation and Satisfactory Academic Progress. Students who are already receiving a full tuition offer are ineligible for this scholarship.

Fine Arts Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who show special ability in fine arts. The amount of the award is variable. Renewal of this scholarship requires a 2.0 CGPA. A student with a GPA lower than 2.0 may keep/lose their scholarship at the discretion of the fine arts chair/faculty recommendation.

Institutional Work-Study

Students needing work to help pay for educational expenses may apply for on-campus employment on the Friends University Employment Opportunities webpage.

Ministerial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to dependent students of ministers actively engaged in a pastorate or serving as missionaries. Each recipient will be awarded $500 per year, not to exceed the institutional maximum. To apply, please submit a letter from the church confirming pastorship or missionary service. Renewal of this scholarship requires Satisfactory Academic Progress. Students who are already receiving a full tuition offer are ineligible for this scholarship.

Miss Teen Kansas Scholarship

A $2,000 scholarship award is given annually to an admitted student who participated in the Miss Teen Kansas Pageant as a contestant. The winner of the Miss Teen Kansas pageant will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship annually. Learn more about the Miss Kansas Organization at http://www.misskansas.org/

National Merit Scholarship

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

This award is given to admitted transfer students who are Phi Theta Kappa members. Each recipient will be awarded $2,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires Satisfactory Academic Progress.  The deadline for applications to be considered for the 2024-25 academic year is June 1, 2024.

Latino Leadership Scholarship

KACRAO Scholarship

To be eligible for consideration for these scholarships, students must be a high school senior at a Kansas high school and have a cumulative seventh semester GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
Students will be required to submit three documents with their application. Contact financial aid for more information or visit https://www.kacrao.org/kacrao-scholarship. Application deadline is March 15, 2024.

Young Life Scholarship

For Friends University students participating in Young Life, there is a Young Life Scholarship. Recipients will be awarded $1,000 per year. The scholarship is renewable up to four years. To apply, fill out the Young Life scholarship application.

Summit Ministries Scholarship

First-time freshmen and transfer students who have participated in a Summit Ministries conference are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years. Renewal of this scholarship requires Satisfactory Academic Progress. Students must apply and be accepted, and then show proof of participation in a Summit Ministries Live or Virtual Conference or show proof that they have paid to attend a future conference. Midwest Student Exchange Program

Friends offers a scholarship through the Midwest Student Exchange Program for students living in Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio or Wisconsin. These students can receive a 10% tuition reduction scholarship for up to 4 years. Sage Scholars

Friends University is a member college of the Sage Scholars Rewards Program. Students participating in the Sage Scholars program may redeem rewards points toward a Friends University education. Learn more and submit rewards points here.

All institutional scholarships and grants require a minimum high school CGPA of 2.0 for freshmen and a college CGPA of 2.0 for transfer students for initial eligibility.
