• Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0

• The paper or project must have been completed for courses taken in the Winter, Summer, or Fall semesters.
• Papers or projects must include a bibliography, list of works cited, footnotes or other bibliographic system according to recognized style guides.
• Most Honors theses are not eligible because papers must have been completed during the previous calendar year and students must be currently enrolled at the time of the award.

• Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences majors
• Minimum of 12 credit hours completed at Oakland University
• Must be full-time
• Provide examples of work with scholarship application in research, reporting, and storytelling, etc., that informs and safeguards the public-interest principle. These works should empower the public by describing changing events, issues and characters in the world.

• Be either an incoming freshman or transfer student to the University or be a current undergraduate student at the University
• Have a declared major in the social sciences within the University’s College of Arts and Sciences
• Reside within the City of Pontiac at the time they are selected to receive an award (students renewing an Award need not reside in Pontiac)
• Have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.7 or greater if receiving an Award as an incoming freshman or a cumulative collegiate GPA of 2.7 or greater if receiving an Award as an incoming transfer student or currently enrolled University student

The statement should state the student’s academic goals; family and work obligations; and personal characteristics that have helped them persist in college.
• Applications must also include a letter of support, limited to one page, from someone who has knowledge of the challenges the student has confronted, and who can attest to the student’s resolve to complete college despite these obstacles. 

• Student must be a graduate or undergraduate at Oakland University and serving as a writing center consultant.

• Graduate student in the Department of Reading and Language Arts in the School of Education and Human Services or an undergraduate student studying
• Preference given to students who have demonstrated service in the field of literacy at Oakland University or through a community service organization

• Master of Accounting (MAcc) student or an undergraduate declared accounting major standing who will be enrolled in the MAcc program in the School of Business Administration
• Has exhibited a combination of outstanding academic performance and leadership skills, including participation in an accounting focused organization

• The applicant must have consistently delivered a distinctive work product that represents leadership skills. Beyond demonstrating technical ability in accounting and finance, this applicant has demonstrated the ability to interconnect other aspects of the business school curriculum in unique applications

• This award will stay with a student during their undergraduate career at Oakland University up to 8 semesters (fall/winter for four years), as long as that student maintains full time student status and a grade point average of at least 3.0.
