SCHOLARSHIPS

The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is committed to the development of America's youth. Along with mentoring and offering programs focused on education, health, wellness, and economic development, we strive to aid talented, young Black or African Americans students in the pursuits of higher education. 

 

In collaboration with the Ivy Community Service Foundation of Cary, Inc, our 503c, non-profit foundation, we awarded over $22,500 in scholarships in 2021 and over $26,000 in 2022 to deserving high school and college students.

Graduation Caps

High School Collegiate Scholarships

We are also pleased to announce seven (7) high school collegiate scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each. This scholarship is available to current high school students in the graduating class of 2023 who meets the following eligibility criteria:

 

  • A graduating 2024 high school senior who is Black or African American

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Attends a public, private, or charter high school in the Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, or Morrisville area

  • Will study as a full-time student at an accredited two or four-year institution in the fall of 2024

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Shirley Franklin Tyree Memorial Scholarship

We are also pleased to announce the Shirley Franklin Tyree Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500. This scholarship is available to one currently enrolled college student in an accredited four-year college or university who meets the following criteria:

 

  • Black or African American  

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0  

  • Completed 30 credit hours 

  • Majoring in Education  

  • Enrolled at Central State University, Wilberforce University or any HBCU.
