Today’s youth is pushing for America to open its eyes to the lack of diversity in the professional world. For instance, we are seeing a huge push to expand diversity and representation in the entertainment industry. There is also a spotlight on our educators and teachers who lack diversity as well, and a push on administrations to diversify facilities and offer more diversity training.
But what about the legal field? The legal profession remains one of the least diverse of any profession. According to the American Bar Association’s National Lawyer Population Survey in 2017, about 5% of active attorneys identified as Black or African American and about 5% identified as Hispanic or Latino. Unfortunately, in addition to these racial and ethnic diversity categories, there remains a gap in the legal field for just about every other minority group out there – women and the LGBTQ+ community included.
At The Law Offices of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz & Bhaya, we want to encourage diversity in the legal industry. That is why we have created the DP Law Encouraging Diversity Scholarship, and we are proud to offer this $1,000 scholarship once again in 2024! This scholarship will be awarded to a minority law or pre-law student. If you identify as a minority based on your ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, or economic status and are interested in pursuing a career in law, you are eligible for our scholarship! Please share why you want to become a lawyer, what type of law you are pursuing, and what motivates you. We are looking forward to hearing from you! The deadline for this scholarship is October 31, 2024, so be sure to submit all of your application materials before then.
Eligibility
- The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, vocational student, college student or graduate student who is a legal resident of the United States residing in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia and who is enrolled in a vocational program or two to four year post-secondary institution for the Spring 2025 semester.
- This scholarship is open to students who identify as a minority based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or economic status.
- Employees of The Law Offices of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz & Bhaya, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households of such individuals (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate in the competition.
- Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.
Application Requirements
- The candidate must fill out the form below with all necessary information
- The candidate must submit a 750-1000 word essay response to the prompt: Why do you want to become a lawyer, and what type of law are you pursuing? What motivates you to study law?
- Please note that all essays will be checked for AI writing. If AI writing is deemed present in the essay, the application will be denied.
- The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience, both professional and academic.
- The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, as well as the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
- Preference will be given to student’s either from or attending secondary school in the state.
