 Education Scholarships

 The foundation offers post-secondary education scholarships, each spring and fall, for students seeking a career in the hospitality industry, as well as to incumbents seeking credentials for advancement, on a competitive basis. The foundation endeavors to identify and reward the best and brightest of the hospitality industry’s next generation of leaders. Scholarships will be adjudicated by the board of trustees. Scholarship recipients must reside in the United States.

Education Scholarships
We provide tuition for up to $2,000 per person who is enrolled in hospitality-related courses, whether delivered in class or online, at any post-secondary, accredited institution within the United States. You must be at least 18 years of age and in possession of a high school diploma or GED. Majors or courses include:

  • Hotel Operations and Management

  • Destination Management

  • Meeting and Conference Planning

  • Wedding and Special Event Planning

  • Exhibition and Convention Planning

  • Meeting and Event Catering

  • Foodservice Management

  • Hotel Concierge

  • Hospitality Human Resources

  • and much more


Application/Document Requirements
Your completed application must include:

  • Essay response within the application form

  • Academic transcripts as proof of scholarly merit

  • Resume

  • Digital photo/headshot in jpeg or png format for use in publicity

  • Signatures of witness & applicant on application form

  • Other awards or supporting documents of achievement (optional)

  • Letter of recommendation (to be sent separately, see details below)

    A letter of recommendation/support must be submitted from a current or former manager, instructor, or peer who can attest to your commitment to the hospitality industry. The letter must be on official letterhead and include complete contact information of the referrer. Letters of recommendation should be sent separately by the referrer by clicking on the tab below:

Click here for the application.  Incomplete applications will not be submitted for review and are not eligible to receive funding from the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation until all the requested documents or application requirements are completed and submitted before the application deadline. Documents or submissions received after the stated due date will not be accepted for that application quarter. Applicants can apply again with a new, complete application the following quarter.
